About me
My story
My name is Carmen, I am originally from Colombia and have been living in the Unites States for over twenty years. I started my career in Colombia as a Psychology graduate.
After moving to the United States, I obtained a master’s degree in professional counseling in the state Georgia where I hold an active license to practice professional counseling.
Throughout my 14-year career as a mental health professional, I’ve had the privilege to partner with individuals of different backgrounds seeking help with healing from life harshness and complexities.
I witnessed the resiliency of those human beings to survive the toughest mind breaking challenges. This resiliency can be further nurtured and developed by every individual regardless of life cycle or circumstances. I am inspired to support clients’ efforts through their journey of learning and unlearning so they could thrive.
I have had the privilege of working with Multi-cultural English and Spanish speaking adult clients to effectively help them overcome issues caused by depression, anxiety, grief/loss, trauma, self-esteem, and abuse.
Vision and Mission
Shifting Roads is dedicated to working with adults who feel, suspect, or know that negative life experiences limit their current ability to live a fulfilling personal, family and or social life. Experiences such as trauma could derail us from our road, trap us into vicious negative thinking patterns and embedded unbalanced emotions that block our potential for growth.
With us you will work on shifting roads towards creating your better self today while establishing the grounds for a more balanced future.

The benefits of therapy
identify your strengths
Have you ever heard the say “Even a broken clock is right twice a day”? Therapy is the place to learn to give yourself credit and build upon it to create a more complete version of yourself.
the power to find solutions
Talk therapy helps us map the road to better journeys; however, as Alfred Korzybski accurately explained “The map is not the territory”. We not only need to put our plan in action but also understand that we are to navigate the nuances and barriers ahead of us skillfully and creatively.
learn how to balance your emotions
Dialectical behavior therapy uses the “rider and the horse” metaphor. The horse represents our emotions, and the rider is us, designated to take the rains and lead the horse to the place it needs to go. Some benefit mainly from learning how to be a skillful rider and gain or regain the power loss at any point of life.
learn how to manage relationships
Because we live our lives surrounded by other humans, other creatures, and our environments. In therapy you will be supported to work on the area that you are lacking skills, feel overwhelmed by demands, or simply wants to invest more for better returns.
What can clients expect to happen in their therapy journey with me?
I strive to create an environment where clients could feel safe and encouraged to improve in all the aspects of life that they know they need to move ahead. I am here as a trusted partner that you can be genuine with and feel empowered to grow.
In our first session together, we will start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges that you are facing. Collaboratively, we will develop a tailored treatment plan that will guide our subsequent sessions.
While everyone is unique with unique life stories, I have found that clients typically will start seeing measurable progress after the fourth or fifth session of committed work on their emotional health. My goal is to ensure that every client has the tools that they need and that they consistently use to navigate life independently once again.
